McGovern Irish Dance Dress Code

Applies to ALL Locations and ALL Classes

Our studio dress code is an important part of each dancer’s development—it’s about showing up prepared, focused, and ready to be part of something bigger. Dressing appropriately teaches self-discipline and helps dancers feel connected as a team.

Being prepared means more than just wearing the right clothes. It means bringing both pairs of shoes (soft and hard), socks, extra hair ties, bandaids, a notebook and pen/pencil, and a water bottle. These small habits build responsibility and create a smooth, focused class for everyone.

When we all show up ready and dressed with intention, we’re setting the tone for progress, teamwork, and pride in our training. We show up as individuals, but we dance as one!

What to Wear

  • Bottoms: Leggings, tights, or shorts in black, gray, white, or pink.

Shorts must be an appropriate length (no “cheek chillers”).

  • Tops: Shirts in black, gray, white, or pink, or any MID logo shirts.

Graphics/designs are okay if they follow the MID color theme.

  • Socks/Tights: White poodle socks, white ankle socks, or dance tights.

  • Sports Bra: Required for all dancers age 10+ or as needed. If you’re unsure—wear one.

  • Hair: Pulled up and off your face and neck (boys too!).

If you don’t do it, we will—with no fuss allowed!

  • Layers: Wear layers you can move in and remove easily. Studios can get chilly, then very warm.

  • Shoes: Ghillies, hard shoes, black ballet shoes, or clean studio-only gym shoes.

What Not to Wear

  • No skirts or dresses

  • No midriff/belly shirts

  • No denim of any kind—shorts, jeggings, jeans, etc.

  • No oversized clothing, dragging flares, or pajama pants (unless layered over dancewear)

  • No dancing without socks

  • No flavored or carbonated drinkswater only

🧴 Don’t Forget

  • Deodorant. Seriously.

  • Hydration. Bring water (just plain water!).
