DRESS CODE
The dress code applies to every McGovern Irish Dance location and every class.
APPROVED COLORS
Black, gray, white, or pink leggings, shorts, tights, and shirts. McGovern Irish Dance logo shirts are always welcome.
GRAPHICS AND DESIGNS
Graphics on shirts or leggings are acceptable when the overall color theme remains black, gray, white, or pink.
SHORTS AND BOTTOMS
Shorts must be an appropriate length—no “cheek chillers.” Leggings may not drag on the floor or have oversized flares.
NO DENIM
Denim of any kind is prohibited during practice. This includes denim shorts, stretch denim, and jeggings.
SHIRTS AND COVERAGE
No skirts, dresses, midriff tops, or belly shirts. Clothing must provide appropriate coverage while allowing full movement.
SPORTS BRAS
A sports bra is required for dancers over age 10 and for any dancer who needs one. When in doubt, a sports bra should be worn.
HAIR
Hair must be securely pulled away from the face and neck. It may not hang in the dancer’s eyes. If necessary, the instructor will provide a new ponytail holder and secure it.
SOCKS
Socks are required with ghillies and hard shoes. White poodle socks or other appropriate white socks are recommended. Socks are mandatory.
SHOES
Standard Irish dance soft shoes, hard shoes, black ballet shoes, or appropriate athletic shoes are acceptable, as directed by the instructor.
LAYERS
As the weather cools, studios may be chilly at the beginning of the day. Dancers should arrive dressed in comfortable layers that can be easily removed as they warm up and the studio temperature rises.
HOT STUDIOS AND HARD WORK
Classes during warmer weather can become especially hot, particularly in the Dayton studio. Dancers should expect to work hard and sweat. Bring plain water and dress appropriately.
PERSONAL CARE
Deodorant—enough said! Dancers should arrive clean, prepared, and ready to share a close training space with classmates.
